Overview[ Top ]  |  [ Bottom ]

With the tower and walls of Brecon Castle located in its gardens, Brecon Castle Hotel is a magnificent heritage hotel of great charm and character. It first opened as a coaching inn in the late seventeenth century, becoming the first modern hotel of its kind in Wales in 1809. This Georgian hotel enjoys the best of both worlds being located in private grounds on a prominent hill and between two rivers in the centre of town but with beautiful views over the river Usk and up to Pen-y-Fan and The Brecon Beacon mountains. Privately owned and family run, it combines a friendly atmosphere with efficient. There is ample off-road car parking in the centre of town for up to 45 cars. Parking is free of charge for hotel guests (we are the only hotel in Brecon with a large car park of its own and extensive gardens). All bedrooms are ensuite and equipped with Cable TV, film-on-demand, internet, tea/coffee making facilities, mini-bars, radio and direct dial telephone. The Brecon hotel offers three types of bedroom, the best being the large south facing rooms with stunning views towards the River Usk and the Brecon Beacons mountains. Free WiFi in all public areas. Dog friendly. Two miles from Cradoc golf course. Extensive conference and wedding facilities for up to 200 guests and delegates. Disabled access and disabled bedrooms. All outdoor activities such as fishing, golf, hawking, walking, riding, sailing can be provided from the hotel. The hotel also owns its own canal boat on the Brecon canal which it can rent out to guests. The hotel owns the Great Hall and Tower and the remains of historic Brecon Castle which are located in its enclosed grounds and guests can ask at reception for a private tour of the castle and its history. All of the elegantly decorated bedrooms come complete with a private bathroom or shower, colour television, radio, direct dial telephone and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities. The Brecon hotel offers three types of bedroom, the best being the large south facing rooms with stunning views towards the Brecon Beacons mountains. The hotel has a cosy AA Rosette restaurant and a large bar, which both serve delicious food using only quality and locally-sourced produce wherever possible. The hotel is a member of the CLA’s Just Ask campaign and the Slow Food Movement and its Head Chef, Patrick Carney, is fast building a reputation for excellent Welsh-International cuisine. The restaurant and bar both face southwards towards the Mountains and are ideal for relaxing in at the end of the day.

Location
The hotel is located in the centre of the Brecon Beacons National Park and in historic Brecon town - the HQ of the Welsh Guards and Borderers of ZULU fame.
DirectionsFrom Heathrow and Southern England via the Severn Crossing...Leave the M4 at junction 24, and follow the signs towards Monmouth (A449) and Abergavenny (A40). After about 14 miles branch left at Raglan to join the A40 to Abergavenny and then to Brecon.

From the Midlands and North...
Take the M5 and then the M50 to Ross-on-Wye. This road becomes the A449. Go to Monmouth and 9 miles past, branch right at the A40 to Abergavenny and on to Brecon.

From the South and West Wales...
From Carmarthen follow the A40 to Brecon. From Swansea and Cardiff in South Wales, approach on the A470.

Unless you are very local, the simplest way to find us approaching the town is from the Southern roundabout, where the A470 meets the A40. Follow the signs to the town centre, continue for about a mile. After crossing the bridge over the river Usk at the traffic lights turn immediately left, signposted towards Cradoc, and after 200 metres turn right, into Castle Square. You will see the hotel and the castle from the bridge as you cross the river Usk. It's quite a landmark !

Features and Amenities[ Top ]  |  [ Bottom ]
Thanks to its quiet location and extensive gardens, the hotel has the feel and charm of a country house hotel but is conveniently situated in the centre of Georgian Brecon town. Unique for Brecon hotels and guesthouses, it has private, off-road parking for 45 cars, riverside and castle gardens and superb views over the river Usk and up to the mountains of the Brecon Beacons. The Great Hall and tower of Norman Brecon Castle are owned by the hotel and can be viewed from its gardens. The hotel can offer a range of outdoor leisure and sporting facilities including use of the hotel’s own 2-berth canal boat on the Brecon Canal, Falconry days, golf at the nearby Cradoc golf course and driving range (voted the best golf course in Wales), fly-fishing with one of the country’s top fly-fisherman, sailing or wind-surfing on Lake Langorse, guided mountain walks and horse-riding on the mountains. In fact, we can organise just about any outdoor activity from the hotel that is available in the Brecon Beacons.
